Controller Area Network or a CAN bus is a message-based protocol standard for mediating information between electronic control units (ECUs), sensors and actuators in vehicles. The information is mediated without complex wiring. This means that different features can be added to ECUs through software. In addition, thanks to the CAN bus, ECUs can use data from other ECUs meaning that there is no need to install the same sensors into multiple devices. It is used in cars and buses, but also in ships and planes and more.
