A car dongle is a small portable device that is used to give LTE connectivity to a vehicle. It also acts as a wifi hotspot. When a dongle is plugged into an OBD II diagnostics port, it is possible to monitor the vehicle’s performance and location. Different manufacturers have also added other features. For example, Verizon’s Hum, paired with a smartphone application, provides vehicle’s health monitoring, roadside and emergency assistance, stolen vehicle tracking, location tracking, and a driving log with travel times, engine idle times, and average speeds.
