The Internet of Things (IoT) is a system of physical devices that are connected to the internet and have the ability to transfer data over a network without involving a human being. IoT allows devices to connect to each other and share real-time data. This makes it possible to use one device to send a command to another IoT device.
The term IoT is mainly used to describe devices that usually are not expected to have an internet connection. In the consumer market, the most known IoT devices are related to the concept of a “smart home”. These devices include small items like light bulbs and light switches that can be switched on using a smartphone, but also smart home hubs that are used to control other connected things. IoT devices can also include connected vehicles, smartwatches, medical equipment, and manufacturing devices.
