In car rental, optional extras is defined as extra equipment requested by the customer. This equipment can include baby seats, navigation systems and ski boxes. Since it is not a standard equipment, usually, additional charges apply.
In the past, optional extras referred to physical equipment only, such as baby seats. Now, some suppliers offer various kinds of services as optional extras, such as refuelling service. Due to this, ACRISS is aiming to replace the term “special equipment” with a more general term “ancillaries”. The Open Travel Allience’s equipment list already includes such services, for example, a prepaid cleaning service.
